I am writing in regard to Burkwald & Associates, our employee benefits consultant. We have worked with the firm for more than a decade, and we are very satisfied with the results.

As with most employers, Zero Zone spends a large share of its annual budget on employee benefits – a budget item that has seen double-digit increases at many companies in southeast Wisconsin. That has not been the case at Zero Zone. By educating our employees about their health care benefits and teaching them how to be better consumers, Burkwald has helped us decrease our medical insurance costs since 2005.

Three years ago, we introduced Burkwald’s EmPowered Health model, which marries wellness activities with our medical plan. Employees now can earn health reimbursement dollars and reduce their medical insurance premiums by completing wellness activities. This helps them control their out of pocket costs while helping us identify and address health risks. Our goal is healthier employees and fewer high-cost claims.

Essentially, our wellness activities are designed to catch small problems before they become big ones and prevent future problems from developing by encouraging everyone to lead healthier lifestyles. These activities are not an overnight fix. Instead, they are part of our strategy to manage costs long term. We are confident this strategy will be effective in the years to come, as it is working very well to date. Effective communication is vital, and Burkwald provides us with support via written tools as well as live employee education meetings as needed.

All in all, we are very happy with Burkwald & Associates. The firm delivers on its promises and provides excellent service.
